Deemed quota types

Deemed universities have four quota types. There is no caste-based reservation — only paid merit seats plus NRI and minority quotas.

Paid / General (UR)

~85% of seats
Who is eligible
Any NEET-qualified candidate, Indian national, or OCI cardholder. Merit-based, no reservation.
If unfilled
Fills by merit across all 4 rounds.

NRI Quota

15% of deemed seats
Who is eligible
NRI / OCI candidates. Sponsor must be a blood relative. MEA documents per 30 July 2025 revised guidelines: embassy certificate, relationship proof, NRI status proof.
If unfilled
Converted to UR (Paid) seats in Round 3 once eligible NRI candidates are exhausted.

Jain Minority Quota

University-specific
Who is eligible
Jain community candidates. Only at universities with Jain minority status (e.g., JSS, KLE).
If unfilled
Converted to Paid Deemed seats in Round 3 after eligible Jain candidates are exhausted.

Muslim Minority Quota

University-specific
Who is eligible
Muslim community candidates. Only two colleges: Yenepoya Medical College and Yenepoya Dental College, Mangalore.
If unfilled
Converted to Paid Deemed seats in Round 3 after eligible Muslim candidates are exhausted.

Seat conversion — Round 3 only

NRI / minority seats convert to Paid Deemed (UR) seats only during Round 3, and only after all eligible candidates in those categories have been considered. This gives general-category students a genuine additional opportunity in Round 3. See the rounds guide.
