Founded on 19 September 1899 as the first Czech university in Moravia, the university comprises 8 faculties and three university institutes and has more than 18,000 students. Its teaching and research are centred on engineering and technology, particularly civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science and information technology, alongside architecture, natural sciences, economics and management, fine arts and design.
